1967: May Snapshot

We’re another month closer to turning 50, so to continue celebrations here’s our latest look back from May 1967.

Something we can all be thankful for, is that 50 years ago this month, we got out first spring Bank Holiday – hurrah! And it seems in celebration, this bank holiday is meant to be the sunniest yet!

Locally, HMS Andromeda was launched from Portsmouth Dockyard. She was the last ship to be built there and later took part in the Faulklands War. In fact, she was only recently decommissioned in 2012 after acting as a training ship for many years.

In even bigger global news, this was when they announced the crew for the Apollo 7 Mission – the team who, a year later, would later be part of the first United States’ Apollo program to carry a crew into space.
